The Industrial Area

The industrial area is roughly 30 ft. x 4 ft. and is located along the center aisle of the layout. There are eight different industries in this area, including an oil refinery and an ice plant. This area was designed for those model railroad engineers who enjoy switching industries. From the photos below, one can tell it is still a "work in progress".

The switches here will be mostly hand-throws, except near the oil refinery where (unless one is in the access hatch) switches cannot be reached from the aisle. An industrial team track runs parallel to the mainline. Cars can be dropped off here for switching to local industries. The lead track for the Big City Yard is located at the left end of the industrial area. Both the Big City Loop and Upper Level Track are routed behind the industrial area. The industrial area extends to the outskirts of Bekinstown.

There will also be a small town built along the backdrop where the Loop track emerges after tunneling through the 2 ft. high backdrop. At present, our program track is located here also.
