Mellinger Lumber Logging/ Farmlands

This area of the layout began as the location for a large oil refinery. That idea was changed later to a logging line, which would include a logging industry along the Reading Branch, as well as a connection between the Reading Branch and a Shay Line Spur. The farmlands would serve as a transition between Metropolis City and Columbia. This area includes the wye junction where trains from the mainlines can access the Reading Branch.Ken Duke and Dave Gruel made and placed hundreds of trees in the logging line area.

Farmlands and meadows along the Reading Branch are shown. This area is nicknamed "Petticoat Junction" because of the swimmers in the water tank nearby.
